“ The food and service were impeccable! We made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival while there were others waiting for a table. It was refreshing that our reservation time was upheld. The gyoza were decent, the citrus sakura roll was delectable, but the bumblebee tuna roll stole the show. The ponzu sauce with the microgreens really brought out the flavor profile of the tuna. 10/10 would come back! ”

“ This was my first trip to Japonica and it was a very good experience. I wish I had known about this place sooner as they have something a lot of ramen places don't have that I love - Tan Tan Ramen! There were a couple of good places around that had this in the South Bay in the past that are no longer. For years I have been looking for someone that made Tan Tan Ramen decently. Japonica's Tan Tan Ramen (sometimes just called Tan Tan Men) was quite good, and I will definitely be back to have it again sometime. We both had it and both liked it. We also had a chicken gyoza appetizer which was some of the best gyoza I think I have ever had. Their smoked soy sauce was very interesting although we didn't have it on anything...I wish we had. The service was not the best; but not because it was lacking...it was too much. They kept asking how we liked our food, probably about 4 times after it was served. Once is enough. It was intrusive. Also, the gyoza "appetizer" was delivered after the main course. Oops! But those small service missteps aside, it was a good experience and I would go here or to one of their other locations (I was not even aware that they had more than until I started writing this review!) in the near future and I look forward to trying their other items. ”

“ I tried this place for DineLA and loved it. Great portions, great flavors, efficient service. When I came a couple more times to dine in, the service wasn't as attentive (though it wasn't busy) and the food was okay but not as memorable as the first time. The neighboring restaurant was quite popular and I mistook their crowd for Japonica's, but it was quiet inside. We had reservations on a weekend evening, though that probably wasn't necessary. I've had a few of their specialty sushi rolls, their spicy edamame, a few appetizers like the gyoza, etc... I wouldn't recommend the spicy tuna crispy rice, as the one we received had rice that had been overly crisped beyond recognition. We liked the rolls and appies well enough. Street parking is best, or you can chance the small parking lot right by the location. ”

“ I came here on my lunch and I'm so happy I did. I love when you find a good sushi spot that likes to be unique, Japonica for sure is on that list. I was seated right as I walked in as it was during lunch hour so wasn't too packed. The food came out really quick and our server was very attentive. They had great music playing light rock. The flavors of the sushi is super refreshing and even some with Smokey flavor. They even have their own house made soy sauce... not sure if I can tell the difference but it was bottled in their own cute bottle. I highly recommend you try! The pictures speak for themselves ;) ”

“ Amazing rolls, I was very impressed. I've been wanting to try this place & Im happy I finally did. There was a bone in my rainbow roll & Id say that it is very fresh however I will let them know for next time to just be careful. Wow I'm impressed tho with taste, flavor and this amazing famous roll. I've never tried anything like that. ”
